Who would like a solid stainless pylon replacement?

Taking a pre-order count. I have permission to use the shop and if feedback is decent, I will pound out a few of these one weekend this fall (after it cools down, I am not standing in front of a lathe for 8 or 16 hours in this heat and humidity).

Tell me what model you have and if possible, dimensions (diameter and length). I will ask for pictures of any that are different from the one I use so I can calculate where the catch will fall to hold it up, and how deep it is, and any other measurements I may need.

Serious inquiries only, please. If you "might want one" please don't post here.

Don't mean to sound rude but if I get 2 "really need one"s and 25 "might"s, I will likely lose my motivation and give up.

Without knowing the cost of materials, let me toss out there that they may be a hundred bucks, most likely less, but I want you all to think $100 in case materials are expensive. If you are not serious at that cost, then assume you won't be able to afford what I get made up.

Again, it could be less, and if I find the materials are cheaper, I will let everyone know and we can take orders then.

At this point, just trying to see how serious the need for these is, and if it is even worth my while to find the materials and costs.

I really need one, bent my pylon this weekend, if you can make the retractable pylon for a 2008 230 wake, i will take one, let me now asap as i will be calling dealer for a replacment soon.

I don't know the dimensions of that one.

Also, I will not be making them until late in the season or even in the off-season, since it is too damned hot to be working in a shop in the summer.

So I would suggest ordering from the dealer for your model pylon.

Sorry.

But if you don't mind waiting, I would be happy to take the dimensions of yours and see what I can do, or send me the bent one and I will copy it in stainless.

The popup ski pylon. Here is a pic of the one I made. Stock aluminum one on bottom, the one I made on top. you could use the black stock knob if you wanted but I made a bigger one for my stainless pylon.

i was able to beat down the pylon with a rubber mallet and got it to move up-down, i think i can get it to last till the end of the season, so when ever you want to start making pylons let me know i'll send you mine, i assume the stainless pylon is heavier will it still stay up on its own with out falling down?
Thanks,

I would like one for a 04 Speedster 200. It looks like the one in your picture. Do you have the demension for the 04 Speedster 200? Based on all the threads I have read there has to be a big demand. You could start an aftermarket business with these and do well.

Count me in to purchase one this fall, or whenever it is convenient for Scoop's Blacksmith Service. I'll get the Speedster 200 ski pole dimensions tomorrow, but am almost certain it is the same across the Sea Doo line.

Edit: +1 to Scoop's idea to machine the rope attachment knob out of the same stainless materials at the top of the pole rather than having a plastic cap.

It would be cool if they were all the same. Just make it easier for me to estimate prices (for shipping weight and materials costs) and set up and pound a bunch out in one afternoon.

Just an update.

I went to the shop and picked up my dad's last toolbox (he retired from working there), and confirmed with the owner that I am welcome to use the shop anytime. He even said I could use it on a weekend, just call and he will unlock it for me.

So all systems are go at this point. Just waiting for a couple of cold fronts to blow the heat and humidity out.

Also getting prices on stainless stock. I may buy now since the owner says it is going up in price on a pretty steady basis.

Saw a very beefy, solid aluminum SD ski pylon for the wake 210 or other larger craft (photos attached). Pylon diameter itself was 2 1/2" for upper half, 2" diameter for lower insert portion. Mounting plates themselves were 6 1/2" diameter.

Obviously this won't work as replacement for S200 or other smaller SD ski pylon replacements. Dealer offered to mount it to swim deck on S200 but I didn't like the mounting setup as my deck is much thinner than the wake boats leaving less vertical support.

Presume that Scoop is not going to fire up the lathe here for the stainless replacement now that he's on the dark side? Scoop, how's your maiden voyage on the Glastron?

It does beg the question though, anyone know of a valid, solid SD replacement for the ski pylon? I'm a bit surprised that SD hasn't come up with something given safety concerns over the old models.

Thanks

I am still around here. Haven't given up on the pylons yet, either.

Maiden voyage is this afternoon, if weather holds out.

Got it home LATE tuesday night, and noticed a little bend in one of the prop blades. Seller said he "thinks" he hit a fish and never noticed any vibration or loss of power so he just kept riding on it. Most likely a soft rotten water-logged stump or log.

I found new prop for $175 to slap on this afternoon, and have the other one straightened for a spare.

Grab a six-pack and some McDonalds, and dinner on the water tonight!:hurray:

I took out my sightly bent pylon and leave it out. If someone want's to ski I slide it in and it rests on the top of the spring latch that is suppose to stop the pylon from coming out. It works fine as long as you don't try to push it all the way down where it will get stuck because of the bend. It is kind of nice not having the knob to bump into when climbing across the back pad.

Mine's a little newer than that! :reddevil:

I know, but I'm that old. I'm giving your Gtron full props (no pun intended).

If you can't bear to watch the full clip attached, start at about 3:02.
Regardless, every helmsman worth his salt should watch the entire Live and Let Die movie.

Enjoy the launch and holiday weekend Scoop.

Jcrango, we're getting by with the slightly bent pylon as well. I'm just concerned it will snap under my grotesquely overdeveloped physique while pulling massive g's in a slalom hook, possibly causing injury onboard.

Check out maiden voyage thread, with pics! :hurray:

I don't have to watch the clip. My wife is a 007 fan, and I bought her ALL of the movies when the box set came out, and got the other two newer ones as they came out.

We know them all by heart! I clicked the link and without hitting play, knew the scene and the movie.

I am definitely in for a replacement for my pole; just bought a 2002 Challenger 2000 and the ski pylon has been cut off at the top bracket. I'm assuming it bent and the original owner had no choice but to hack it off. So, I'm a yes, yes, yes as long as the price isn't completely nuts.
