WHICH hoses to clamp while towing?? 2 Engine

tres...wont need to pinch any hoses, but use the flush adaptor's under the engine hatch.

Input vs. Output hose to clamp for my 4-TEC
This and some other posts I have read have me confused on which hose I would need to clamp for my boat. This and other posts say to pinch the input hose to the Exhaust that is coming from the pump.
My boat is a 2009 Islandia 4-TEC and my owners manual say and shows to clamp the Exhaust OUTPUT hose that goes form the Exhaust to the Muffler system as described and shown in the attached word document.
This and some other posts I have read have me confused on which hose I would need to clamp for my boat. This and other posts say to pinch the input hose to the Exhaust that is coming from the pump.

Valves....
If you choose to put a valve in place for this purpose, the PVC valve is your best choice.
The other thing to remember is in a lot of valves, the diameter of the valve is actually reduced to a different size of the line.
One last thing. Anyone who has ever bought or used a brass ball valve, knows from looking on the inside, the actual ball is stainless, not brass.
Over the long haul, metal provides a great source for marine plant life to grow. Algae, barnnacles and other things such as a build up of minerals in the water.
As for the idea "I live in fresh water".....well, that only makes you immune to the destructive nature of calcium chloride (salts). It does not stop the marine growth, which I have seen the influx of certain mussels over the last few years that are suppose to be overtaking our fresh water lakes. Even some are clogging up the inlet water grates to power plants.......so, just because you live in fresh water, does not make you immune from these same probems, just changes the way and type of growth.......:cheers:

Towing 4 tecs...
Because the 4-TEC's have 2 cooling systems, the closed and open loop, the only one you need to worry about is the jet pump water supply line to your exhaust system.
When towing, the water moving through the jet pump can create the pressur needed to continue to send cooling water into your open loop. Without the engine running, the exhaust can not blow the water out. Therefore, the water builds inside the exhaust till it dumps in over the highest part of that exhaust loop, directly into the cylinders......
So, hoses that need to be pinched are always hoses that are coming in from your jet pump.........

I'm thinkin # 6!
I think number six. when You put the hose on it's not back flushing it's running
the same direction as normal flow. Blocking at number six will keep water pressure from the Pump from flooding the engine.
If someone thinks I'm wrong please explain.

So which one is it? 4..or 6
So which hose did we decide it is? number 6, or number 4? Right now I have mine marked to pinch number 4 when being towed... Do I need to change this?

if you hook water up to the flush spigot under the hatch, you'll see it come from the "hose adaptor" fitting at the back of hull, which is the same fiting the water would exit if dumped in the lake. So, hooking it up at top, would be "backflushing". You pinch #6, and that would be the same as hooking the flush hose at the back of the hull, so you'd have to "monitor" the water pressure, where as, you leave it open, half the water goes strate out, other half will get pulled the cooling system.
Look at the picture, if you pinch #4, THATS the hose, strate from the pump going to the head, so if ur towing, you'd want to pinch/ball valve that one...
