Where did the VTS rebuild thread go?

I remember a while back seeing a thread where someone cut open a VTS case & pulled the board.
Can't seem to find it. Got a dead one with a siezed motor to boot.

Im guessing there are a few variations of them?
 
I have also had good luck pulling the motor apart and cleaning it up along with greasing. I have been able to bring 3 outta 5 back to life that way.
If you cant find a VTS motor, Jetskigoodies posted somewhere that the VTS motor is the same as a Nissan power window motor. I believe it was a mid to late 80's 300 zx power window motor.

Thank you, thats what I was looking for! Sad to read that taking them apart destroys the plastic case though.


Sorry, I've been a bit of a fair weather member.... :( Nearing the end of snowmobiling season & I'll have my brain back into summer stuff ;) Picked up another project ski, so I'm getting the itch again.....
 
Really not sure why it failed in the first place......

Hey, thats not fair, when you come out with a new ski you have to post a pic, its a rule, or at least tell us what you got.:thumbsup:

BTW how was the sledden this year, it was just average where we go.
 
It was a bad start to the season, Didn't even ride until the end of january. Got about 600 miles on this month which is more than all of last year. We keep getting warm spells right after a good snow fall. Seem to be the trend with the weather the last couple years.
The Ski is a 95 XP, needs a bunch of love, but is a pretty solid machine otherwise.


So I take it nobody is really fixing these units other than the motors? It would seem that link is more to show how they work? I guess I will try pulling mine apart if its headed for the trash can anyway. No relay clicks, no proper resistance values (using a good magnet) I wonder if the board is only secured with the rubber epoxy?

Wait a minute now I fix up all the time. I used to buy "The Trim Fix" and it works out great. Then I found a thread called "Trim Fix for Under $20" and started doing that. The thread was actually made by Spim's mechanic and ride buddy. It has a diagram showing how to do it from two headlight relays.
 
Does that kit tie into the postion reeds on the original board? I would like to have the gauge work, & the limit switches are nice to have working too to prevent binding the motor/gear Can you give a little detail on how it works? Is it just a double relay kit that runs the motor without using any of the original VTS internals?

I search for a thread by that name and found 349 threads....some had nothing to do with VTS.
I didn't find that one but did read some other interesting ones.
I'll search under chuck's name and see what I find.
 
So, I pulled the motor apart, & it would have been repairable, except the bottom bronze gimbal bushing was seized to the armature, so it came out with the armature. A little heat & I got the bushing off & cleaned up, but there really no way to re-install it behind the retainer. I don't believe I will be able to put that back together.

I also bought a used housing on ebay for $50.00 seller claims it works, so we will see. But now it appears I will be needing a motor too.

Here's a front motor from a late 80's-90's stanza. Looks identical (not sure if this is left or right)

That looks pretty darn close, I believe the window motors are both the same on the left and right. I found in another thread that it was a 84-89 Nissan 300 zx and a 95-98 240sx.
 
So I bought a used VTS housing on ebay. It showed up friday & was testing it today. Its no good.:banghead:
Trim sender switches work as they should, but the down limit switch circuit is junk. Runs until it mechanically binds. Tried a couple different magnets to see if I had a weak one. Nope, shes junk........:(

Its so hard buying this kind of stuff used.......
 
I believe the magnets are only for the trim gauge reading.

Will you use a 2.5 amp circuit braker to limit the travel? The relay fix sounds really good, just need to figure out how to limit the travel.

I'll only buy VTS units from Tonka or his brother. Got my VTS from his brother. More expensive than most I found online, but it worked perfectly and no worry of getting a bum unit. He checked it out, sealed it up, and even included a new wire harness.

Sorry I shothought I did a quote on my reply before. I am looking for the thread Matt Braley mentioned titled "Trim fix for $20" that uses headlight relays. Just wondering if its different than what was posted about using an alarm actuator.
