Whats the best intake grate

There will be a few different answers.

If you ride in smooth water and do not upgrade the engine HP to accommodate a performance impeller you could easily loose speed but gain some handling.

If it is rough or choppy where you ride, a top loader grate will help as it will throw water into the impeller.

It depends on how you ride and who you ask. How's that for a generic answer, I should have been a politician.

Personally I'm a recreational rider and I like the R&D, it's not a real aggressive intake grate, but it does a better job of keeping the pump loaded in mild to moderate wake it also seems to improve handling (I'm talking about over the stock grate).

If you're a more aggressive rider or a racer you might want to look into a Jet Dynamics grate.

by the way lou I have lived in Lexington a few times in my life, had two older sisters that lived there most of their lives, im from eastern ky / southwestern va currently in NC I sure miss those moutains

i agree with coastie... the riva top loader is awesome for chop... i use it on my 06 gtx and i cant say anything bad about it.

im not sure if R&D makes an intake for your ski... but if they do take a look at that i hear nothing but awesome things about them... had i heard all the great things before i bought my riva.. i probably would have went R&D
