I just picked up another project ski. At first, I thought it had a bad drive bearing when looking it over,

Imagine my surprise to find this....... Looks like its been in there a while too. :lols:

notice hows its been wearing down the shaft & getting closer & closer to disaster?
I hope it just ruined the shaft, & the the impeller.

I'll pop off the drive tonight. This ski has a bit of a to do list, & its getting longer.... ;)

It has an aftermarket grate. It says UMI racing on it. Might as well not be there, the openings are crazy huge!

The project is a 1995 XP. Engine seems sold. Good compression, clean looking bores & valve. Never been serviced tho, lack of service seems to be a common theme with these ol girls...
still has original clamps on the pto boot and all fuel lines, So far it looks to need the typical stuff. Tempo lines, sunken fuel float, fried VTS, starter solenoid & then all the standard maintenance stuff. Also missing the storage box & extinguisher container

Its a lot like the GSX I recently finished condition wise.

Lol!

Can I help you feel any younger by telling you that I was in high school when this came out? ;)

Two characters Spim: Statler and Waldorf.

I'm right there with you, quality friggin' entertainment. I was probably around 5 to 7 when I watched, then rolled into Fraggle.

68, that looks like a nice ski. Nice shop too.

Here's the damage:

Impeller I think can be saved
Wear ring is toast
Drive shaft is smoked & was on its way to becoming a tooth pick
Sadly, it would appear the rock is also going to be a loss.

wonder how many seasons that thing was in there.....?

Nice, I remember back on my 89 SP I sucked a small rock and snapped a blade off my solas impeller. Whipped it right into the hull. Half in, half out. Vibrated like a Mofo. I might have a potential interest in the UMI if your looking to part ways with it.

That driveshaft and impeller have a little ride left in them. That impeller looks like a Skat swirl that was minty before it met the rock. Take a file to it and you could work those burrs out. Or send it back to Glen himself(Skat Trak impeller repair) and have him rebuild it. It's not that expensive and comes with the rubber cone you need for the front of the impeller.
