What's more fun, the X4 xp, or the 951 xp?

I just wanted to know what you guys out there think is a more fun ski, the 1995-1996 XP with the X4 hull, or it's younger, more fierce looking brother 1997-200+ XP. I know the newer one needed an extra 20hp from the 951 to help it move the extra 70lbs, but the hull design is so different, I expect that it handles way differently too. Is it more stable with another person? I expect it doesn't jump as high, but what about stability in the chop? What do you guys think?

It's just different. More weight will help in the rough water, but it's harder to throw it around. I've never tried to ride 2-up on the spring seat XP... so I don't know about it's stability. BUT... I know I can turn hard enough on my 96 XP that if I'm not holding on... it will throw me. (most skis slide in a hard, power-on turn)

Personally i love my 2000 xp 951. it carves through the water something fierce, especially when the trim is down. You can not do a donut with the trim down. As far as riding with someone, its very stable in good water conditions, but if you both weigh in the upper hundreds its pretty much impossible to ride and have fun. My XP jumps awesome when you get a big wave, you just have to throw your weight over the front of the handle bars because it tends to go nose up when out of the water really high. I ride motocross too so that helps when jumping these things. I can even do supermans off some big waves, SO DAMN FUN!!!!

I've owned a 2000 xp limited and now own a 96xp and i like em both but is go w my 96 just because the turns are a lot funner, also the 787 motors are more bullet proof imo .

I wonder what the results would be if someone managed to stuff a 787 into a '95HX. I bet that would be a monster of a good time, given you put in a higher pitch prop or maybe even change out the whole pump housing. Anyone ever hear of something like that? Was the 720 in the HX dual carb? Was it still rated at only 85HP?

hahaha, I can imagine. probably doesn't have the buoyancy to float the heavy 787 AND a driver crazy enough to ride it. I'd still like to try it though. Has anyone in NC done it?

Ppl that like to race dp it, but from.what I've read you can just idle around or turn ski off out in water or your going to fall off haha.

:) like the stand up kawi's. Hey, that's cool, I bet it gets massive air on waves. It weighs another 40lbs less than the xp (probably negligeble, especially since the 787 is heavier). But that's a lot of hp to weight. I bet it's analogous to driving a miata

Since I own a 96XP, I would have to say the X-4. It's best for jumping wakes, faster turns. That said, sometimes I think it's trying to kill me, a couple of hours on the X-4, and I'm ready to go get my 96GTI.

However, I'm not getting any younger and am strongly considering the next generation XP, they're faster, easier to ride, because they're a little longer and heavier, I don't think they turn quite as quick, or jump quite as high. They are still a blast to ride. The only drawback (for me) is the 951, all I have ever worked on are 720's and 787's, but I'll learn. I'm not going to do anything until the end of the season.

0h the 951 will fit but you cant race with a 951 in and it makes the ski too front heavy ijsba rules or sport mod class is limited to a 810cc motor so the 951 cant be used to race but here is a pic of a 951 DI in a hx
