what oil?

I know what you mean. Our dealer here started charging $80.00 gal. and it wasn't even SeaDoo brand. I changed to Quick Silver PWC mineral oil earlier this year. If you make a change be sure to change to the same type, if you were using mineral oil you can change to Quick Silver Mineral oil, if you were using synthentic, stay with synthetic. You can go from mineral oil to synthetic but not from synthetic to mineral.

If possible you need to drain the old oil before changing brands. There is a whole bunch of threads on this forum about the procedure.

I changed from mineral to mineral, just different brands, so I drained the tank, changed the filter, put in the new oil, and bleed the lines.

I just started using Mystik Full Synthetic JT4 oil. I get it at the local Academy sports store for $19 per gallon.

You can use any oil that is API-TC certified. DO NOT USE ANY OIL THAT SAYS TC-w3 ON THE BOTTLE.

If I've been using the SeaDoo Synthetic Oil (in a 97 GTX) and want to change to another sythetic oil that is API-TC certified, do i still need to drain existing oil and clean the reservoir so as not to mix different oils? Is it ok to mix different brands of Synthec oil as long as they meet the same specs?

They may have different additives. Play it safe, and drain whats in there.

we sell lucas land and sea semi synthetic API-TC at my work, just fixed the oil bottle grommet so the tank was empty, filled it up with this stuff, local dealer and lucas both said it fine to mix, guy at the dealer even came in the next day and bought 2 cases for himself after i told him the price lol...

HERES THE details
Recommended for use in air-cooled or liquid-cooled 2-cycle engines which specify the use of an API-TC oil. This includes the following PWCs:
WaveRunner
Sea-Doo
Polaris

That's what I use, QuickSilver PWC Mineral, I get it at Walmart about $24.00 gal.

Draining Oil

Here's how I do it, I would not recommend this method if you are changing types, ie mineral to synthetic. This method should drian 99+% of the oil.

At the lower end of the oil pinch off the line as close to the filter as possible.
Lay an old towel under that area, remove the lower oil line an let the oil from the filter drain into a margarine tub or whatever you have.

After all the oil is empty change the oil filter and add some new oil, when the oil gets to the end of the filter put your finger over the end of the filter. Unpinch the lower hose and let a little oil from the filter run into it, to get rid of any air bubbles. Reattach the filter to the lower hose and install new cable ties.

Fill the oil tank, you're done.

hey guys, just joined. i figured instead of starting a new thread i would just ask my question here. new to seadoo's/jet skis. whats the difference between the API-TC and the Tc-W3 oil?

...

the oil i ran in it was the seadoo xps 100 percent synthetic the quicksilver is a synthetic blend it says so is that good r not

You should continue to run a full synthetic, you can switch to another brand and you should drain the rest of the old oil.

Lou

That Mystik is full synthetic. I am pretty sure quicksilver makes one too, but it will cost more than the synth blend.

the quicksilver pwc full synthetic was 37.99 and the (i am assuming semi-synthetic?) was 27.99 at walmart.
