Hi there just wondering what octane do you use in a 1993 seadoo xp? I'm thinking 89 or 91 but i'm not totally sure so if someone could tell me that would be great. also how fast do those ski's usually go? thanks :)

Originally, they were designed to run on 87. But, with the newer fuels (with alcohol in it) they recommend using 89.

Regarding speed, it depends on what motor and configuration it has. I think the 93 xp has a 650? My guess is around 45 ish

Thanks Dr Honda i was thinking 89 was what you were suppose to use but thanks for clearing that up :) Rotaxrule1 also thanks yes it is a 650 and 45 seems to be fast enough for me lol all that matters is your riding and having fun once again thanks. also if someone could help me out with a couple more questions i have that would be great. i had it in the water a couple days ago and it runs great the guy i bought it off of rebuilt the motor and the compression is 150 both cylinders but once you shut it off it doesn't like to start back up easily unless you feather the throttle. the carbs do seem like they need rebuilds but i have a feeling thats not the problem. im almost certain it needs RV shaft seels so my question is could the crank case be getting flooded with oil once i shut it off therefore making it hard to start because theres to much oil in the case? it seems to foul plugs alot and for the first 5 mins of running it in the water you see lots of smoke but after that it goes away. also when there is 2 people on it, it almost never starts for some reason? so if anyone could answer why this is happening that would be great

Yeah, my xp is acting similar. From what I have read so far, I think the pop off pressure is too high, but in your case, it could be bad needle/seats if it smokes alot on startup.

My suggestion is to check your pop off pressure and get a carb rebuild kit and start there. Also make sure you have replaced the old grey fuel lines (read up on that, it's posted all over) and cleaned your fuel filters in the line and in the carbs. Also it might not hurt to do a crankcase pressure test to see if your crank seals really are bad.

Anyway, my two cents on what I have learned so far. Correct me if I am wrong or if you have anything to add Doc.....

Ummmmmm......

The rebuild is a good place to start, and yes, your needle and seats could very well be leaking.

The only comment is about the oil seals. If they were leaking bad enough to keep it from restarting after a few minutes... then overnight, your engine would be full of oil, and hydro-lock. So... that's probably not the issue. (i'm not saying that they are fine... it's just that they don't cause issues like this)

OK... with that said... don't buy an aftermarket rebuild kit. Get actual Mikuni kits. Some of the aftermarket kits have diaphragms that will cause issues. Last year, I did 3 sets of carbs that "Had just been rebuilt"... and all I did was to remove the crap diaphragms, and replace them with OEM... and all the problems went away.

I use super and stabill in everything now days..... With all the ethanol in the fuel these days.... you lose a half of an octane a week....and it turns to water in your fuel. so to me, the higher the octane rating, the longer the fuel will stay fresh plus..I use stabil...

thank you guys for all the info. i already replaced all the fuel lines so now i will clean the carbs soon and get mikuni carb kits and rebuild them once again thanks guys
