I'm looking for a winter project, and I decided I wanted to restore a 96 xp. I found one, and it's in rough shape.

It looks like it was an old racing ski. It had all of its original decals removed. It looked like it had some kind of tiger stripe pattern on it, but they were all removed. It said Team something racing where seadoo should have been. It was like law- something. I couldn't tell, it was dark.

It looks completely stock.

It's got a cracked jug. Water was sitting in there over the winter and cracked it. Its a huge crack. Not repairable.
The engine is out of the ski. The head is off. The bore looks great. Its real smooth with no scratches. Its still at stock bore. 81.89 mm
The engine otherwise looks like its in good shape. It turns freely. The pump turns freely.

The hull:

The steering cable is snapped. It looks like it might have frozen, because I can't turn the nozzle. But I can see where it snapped up front. I don't know if the mpem works. How can I test it? I think the engine needs to be installed to get it to turn on. Battery is dead, but hey what do you expect.
I don't even need to power up the ski to tell that the vts doesn't work. The whole unit is shot. There's a pile of corrosion in the box. Is there a way to disable/remove the vts?

All of this for $300, no trailer. What do you think? I want another opinion. Sorry there's no pictures.

Does anyone have a stock bore jug they can sell to me?

I have every part on that ski many times over but I want a pic(please). Old team race skis get my engine running. That hull could be lightweight or could have been tuned. I would buy it and ask questions later. Does it look like it could have been a sister boat to the one in my avatar? This talk of stripes has me wondering.

Sorry, but all of the decals are off. Not like stripes like yours, but kind of like this. 10714-800x576-WT12.jpg I doubt the hull was touched, but it's possible. If it was a real race ski, why would it be completely stock?

OOPs maybe I'm jumping the gun on race ski then. At $300 your gonna have too much in it by the time you fix everything and get a good trailer under it.

I have a trailer. Really, too much? What do you think it could sell for? I really don't care how much time I put in it.

they don't sell for much. $1200 to $2,000 depending on various factors.

I've seen them sell running for $900 before.

Try to get pics for us to see but, you taking it off this guys property sounds about right for how much you should pay.

Ok, I wasn't going to do a full engine rebuild if that's what you were thinking. Just a quick buff, and maybe a top end rebuild on the engine. I was in about $800 on my last resto. This one should be about the same .

I could never sell one of my skis up here on Craigs, I don't think anyone would pay me for what I would have to ask. I'm also the guy that would never look at a cleaned up 96 with a top end, I'm looking for the one that comes in milk crates and doesn't run. I have realized as much as I want to, I'm not a flipper of skis. I build to keep and I can live with that.
