I just bought a 97 seadoo gsx w/ the 787 engine. I know the guy before me ran seadoo oil but im not sure if he ran mineral oil or synthetic. When i bought it he gave me a gallon of oil when i bought it. I added a little bit of the gallon and a few days later relized it said mineral oil on it. When i asked him if he knew what was in the machine he said he didnt know if it was mineral or synthetic. I plan on draining all the oil out of the compartment and just buying a new gallon of seadoo xp-s synthetic and filling it back up. Will this be ok, i seen some posts that you have to drain the oil out of the engine and stuff before you add synthetic. I didnt do this with my snowmobiles are they the same concept? The jet ski is a 97 with 40 hours on it so im guessing the oil is very old anyways. The gallon he gave me just days mineral oil, its before they started naming there oil XP-S.

I just checked the extra jug of oil i have and its says its rotax injection mineral oil. It is brown in color. There is no evidence of any blue oil ever being used.
I did the same thing when I first got my XP. Didn't know what was in it, just asked at the Seadoo desk and he gave me mineral oil.
I had a major mess on my hands afterwards.
It gelled up like jello, and clogged my injectors, filters, everything. I am lucky I didn't burn it up.
I would drain all the oil out, swap filters, and put in the correct oil, which is either synthetic or synthetic blend XP-S (warning- Seadoo calls both their synthetic, synthetic blends, and for that matter, I think they even call their mineral oil "XP-S". That is how I got into trouble.)
Drain it, suck all the old mineral oil out, and use a synthetic.

Yes, it is a mess to clean up the oil, but worth it if the engine lasts.

I think that they guy has been running the seadoo rotax injection oil since new. The jet ski has never had XP-S run through it because the stuff he ran and the jug he has is so old that wasnt even out yet. I think he ran the injection oil because the sticker on the ski doesnt say anything about using synthetic.
I am pretty sure i read on the jug, that the newest XPS synthetic can be added to mineral, but i dont think you can go the other way. Goto the dealer and read the jug.
How come the seadoo rotax injection oil i have doesnt say xps on it. Is it just the old jug? It doesnt say anything about rave valves either on it. Im going to check what the new xp s synthetic says on the jug and if it says you can mix them im going to drain my tank and change my filter and use the new xps synthetic.
