I own a scrap metals yard and stay very busy all the time. I told myself this year I will break the cycle. My oldest is almost seventeen and time has really slipped by me.

We had a Tug pushing 6 fully loaded barges go up river so we followed and played in his wake and along side him on the nice 3foot high waves.

My family owns a yard in Ohio, I KNOW how busy and hard it is to run and work there.

We stepped up to the plate and spent over a million dollars and bought the loaders, cranes with mags, crusher and shredder. And we were licensed to sell as well.

So yes, you need to enjoy life. I hope the skis continue to be a good "out" for you...

I am the largest privately owned Yard in the Chattanooga Tn Area. I have to compete with 3 of the largest companies in the world within 4 miles of my door so it keeps me busy. I wouldnt work in any other field, I am a liscensed asbestos contractor, Demolitions contractor, exotic woods and brick but the scrapmetals is what I love. I have great friends like Hudlow Axle and Driveline right next to me and Dyno-Proven Diesel shop beside me we kinda have a Gasoline Alley kinda thing going in our town. Check these guys out on facebook and Youtube my buddy Steve Hudlow has some cool playtoys.

I think I might buy me a seadoo boat you can buy them around here in good shape and running for less than 5K dollars.

Very competitive field... We started small but did very well. So much so that the semi-local major yard out of Erie was not happy. They would give us a price but we would ship where the money was, even to Russia a few times via a barge. So they finally said they would buy 100% of our yard equipment, supply us with all new equipment with the understanding we ship only to them, but at the best price we could find anywhere in the world.

So it worked out. We no longer had bills for the equipment and they pay us to maintain it. Worked our pretty well.

We have grown this business over the last seven years paying cash as we went so we have zero overhead outside normal bills, power, etc. We ship to the end user cut out all the middle men its the only way we have survived this collasol economic / goverment save us from our selves thing we have bread and people keep voting the same idiots in expecting a diffrent outcome. Ughhhh sorry end of rant.. I tell you crazy crazy crazy. Its alot of fun the Barney Frank and Harry Reed housing bubble sank our flooring business we liquidated and consolidated into the scrap industries and it saved our whole family.

Congrats to you, sounds like you have done well.

Ok,, I hijacked this thread enough,, LOL

GLad the skis are running well and I hope they do for years to come...

This is the front that has moved in after our day on the river. You can see it rolling over LOOKOUT Mtn in the background.

Hey neighbor how is the water? Love Raccoon Mtn. Last year when we delivered the new armatures there I told myself I was going to ride there...haven't done it yet, but this year I'm going.

Be careful not to get too close to the tugs. They shoot and ask questions later. LOL

We are going down to Nickajack next. Now that I'm more comfortable with the ski's and how well they are running.
