Went to fire up my '96 787 gsx today. Cranks great, but it only sparks when the plugs are out. Like when it spins faster it will spark, but as soon as I put the plugs in it slows down from the compression, it wont spark.
Yea, it was a new battery. But It started after I hooked a spare car battery to it via jumper cables. After I checked voltage it was a little low, let it trickle charge all night. I will try again today.
I've always charged my battery when connected to the ski, I've used a trickle charger or battery tender. Never had a problem. I wouldn't use a high setting battery charger.
I know not to use a battery box, or jump start while the donor vehicle is running.
Why can't you charge the battery while connected to the ski?
the battery prob doesnt have enough amperage to turn it over AND run the ignition. Usually its b/c its not even the right one.
For example...I had a customer bring a 4 stroke over with a two stroke battery. It would crank but not spark. Put in the correct one and it fired right up.
Just b/c it cranks, doesnt mean its the right, or a good battery.
