Wear ring problems

while riding my 2005 GTI LE RFI I experienced cavitation while riding in open water. The plastic ring was stuck between the impellor and wear ring. I went and got my 2003 GTI LE and the same thing happened right away with no evidence that I had hit anything . What do I have to replace to fix this and does anybody know why it happened?

Why it happened? It's probably from previous damage, and t finally delaminated.

More or less... just replace the ring. There is a thread in the how to section on changing your ring.
