water in engine from leaking exhaust

Heres the story, Guy rebuilt the carbs and to save money I told him not to do anything else. He told me the exhaust was leaking and the square gasket on the exhaust bend was leaking as well. I patched the hole with epoxy but didnt replace the gasket yet. Took it out and it started to die out. Got really hard to start and eventually would only move 2-5mph at WOT. Checked the plugs and they were wet and solid black.
Called the guy and he said there is probably water in the engine from the gasket not being change.
My question is- Will this gasket really cause water in the engine? It seems the only way it would is if the water was leaking into the carbs but there is no water on top or in the hull. Would it be leaking internally through the exhaust?

There is a water jacket in the pipe, and yes... water could get back into the engine. Also, an exhaust leak into the bilge will displace the air, and make the engine run poorly, cause it to shut off, and cause it to be hard to start.

Fix the leak before you cause damage.

Could that particular gasket cause the problem? I already ordered it.

Well I got both gaskets ordered. I just want to make sure this Guy isn't avoiding a Carb issue by blaming it on a leak.
The plugs were wet and solid black. I took out the plugs last night. Today I turned it over and nothing came out of the plug holes. Water or gas...

There is no way to do repairs "on the cheap" with seadoos. Everything needs to be correct or your just risking a bigger bill.

Not sure how you got the idea that I was doing anyting on the cheap...??? I am asking tons of questions to help trouble shoot and fix the problems...

Thats where I got it from...but I was saying it in general, not specifically to you.
