We have a 2002 Bombadier seadoo. We took it out in the lake with 3 people on it. Stopped to take pics and it stalled in the middle of the lake. the engine was full of water. more on the left side. It started to sink. Had to push and swim to shore. (NOT FUN!).Needless to say it would not start. What would cause the engine to fill with water, and what do I do to fix it?

Get all the water out right away, and oil the components. If it rusts its toast. Theres probably bad seals or gaskets somewhere if water got inside the engine. May mean rebuild time. Still odd that happened...

There are cooling hoses all over the engine. One of them could be split, or a clamp came off.

The other thing that could have happened is that your carbon seal (driveshaft) broke. When they give up... your ski can sink very fast.

If you want your engine to live... make sure to get the water out of it, and get it running.

if there is water in the engine remove spark plugs, intake manifold and
crank motor until water stops coming out of cylinders, then pour 40ml
of oil down each cylinder (use spark plug holes),rest for 1 hour re crank motor
for 20-30 seconds. drain oil from sump, replace with new oil, refit intake
spark plugs and test. its important to do this straight away.

Thats the worst! A little late, but one thing I always do at least once when I take them out is lift the seat while standing up and idling and in a wakeless zone and check the engine over best I can visually to make sure no apparent leaks are there and everything looks normal. I know its a little awkward and OCD, but it has saved me at least once. Usually you cant tell its taking in water until it's too late and it stalls.

Water in engine area

The water was not in the engine persay, it was in the engine area. When we got it out of the water, we drained all the water out of it and cranked it. It did turn over but we did not take it back out in the water. What should we do?
