video of man replacing wear ring without removing impeller, is this possible?

It only works if everything is perfect. Personally... it takes less time, and screwing around if you just take the impeller off.
 
Takes way less than 2 hrs to take the prop off, cut the old ring and put the prop back on.
 
I agree, personally I like to check the condition of the pump, seals, impeller, etc. And it really doesn't take that long to change a wear ring anyway.


Added:
I just watched the video, it's a 4-tek which uses a teflon wear ring. I still would be worth a try, seems no matter how careful I always nick the pump when I cut the old wear ring out. However I would still remove the impeller and check out the pump.

I do it all the time, mostly on the 4tecs, the wear ring isn't very tight and will pull/twist right out with a pair of vice grips(some of the 4tecs have screws you have to remove first). you don't even need to put it in the freezer.

why waste 2hrs.... so much faster dismantling it.. and get all around inspection.. but the whole fridge concept ?
