1. What is the differance between a sportster and a speedster? I have seen a speedster advertiesed as a sportster and like wise. I have 06 sportster SCIC but have seen the same boat as a speedster.
2.On the SC engine how often does the oil need to be changed? I just changed mine and the manual says every 100 hours, that seems a long time between changes.

I think in 07' they started calling the 150's speedster's, I had an 06' 150 sportster as well, and noticed that on the 07' models the decal's said speedster, not sure why, maybe it just sounded better, but they are the same boat. As far as the oil, i change my oil and filter about every 12 to 15 hours. not really a big deal, takes about an hour to do, and i think it helps with SC slippage and wear, maybe overkill but hopefully it is worth the time and money in the long run.

Rule of thumb on the oil, is change it in the beginning of the season. I live in Florida, and run my 200speedster year round. I change my oil at 100 hour mark as that is about a years average use here. No huge temps changes here or winterizing required like up north. With big temp changes you could encounter condensation in the oil, so change it in the spring(filters too) before the season use.

Oil chagne

Wow 100 hours a season as this is my first boat in a long time I thought that seemed like a long time between changes. I guess I will have to monitor how long I actualy have the motor on. Every 12 to 15 hours seems a little extreme. I think I may have to go with something in the middle. As said it is not that hard to change the oil once you have done it the first time. Thanks for the info and lets all enjoy our boats.

The manual states service at the first 10 hours and at 100 hour intervals. In an average here in Florida, if you run your boat on the weekends and a little during a week it can be about 20 hours a week...on average. So 100 hours of use isn't much really....Or cut that in 1/2... 10 hours a week...in 5 months that's 50 hours...or 100 in a year. If you spend $15-$30,000+ for a Jet boat, you should use it.

The main reason I moved to Florida is for the year round boating and Scubadiving season...

Karl

Here it Southern California there is also year around boating, just not as nice as in your part of the U.S. I sometimes feel a little sorry for the folks up north and having to winterize there craft and put them away for the season.

I moved here from up state N.Y back in 1996...I never looked back. I still ran my race jet ski's from April/ Ice Thaw, till early Dec when the ice was on the lake I lived on. I don't worry about the cold water in January here of 65* or the 96* in August. I love paradise.

I have lived in SoCal all my life and love it. With the mild 70-80 winters of course there as some cold days the boat can be taken out often. I do find that it is somewhat of a fare weather boat as the wind does come right in your face. I would almost think that something like a motorcycle windshield on the bow of the boat would hlep some.

I usually use my Speedster on the ICW when it's really windy, unless I want to get some major air from wave jumping. I can run like 80 miles on the Inter Coastal Waterways in either direction if I want, so weather isn't a real big factor here unless a storm brews up quickly. In the winter, not so much n the summer...storms come real quick so I always keep an eye on the weather, and tiki bars
