If you read my post from the other day, I recently had a new top end rebuild on my 98 GTS with 720 motor and had them sized 0.5mm over and dropped in new 82.50 kit. I had some early lean detonation the PTO cylinder which caused some damage to the cylinder, top ring and a pit on the top of the new piston, along with some pitted damage on the under the cylinder head. I know I have to replace that as well.
My question is, can I only fix the bad cylinder now and keep the newly rebuilt Mag cylinder with new piston and bore which is now 82.50 and still good, and have my other cylinder bored and chamfered to a full 1mm over to try to remove sleeve damage and have a 83.00 (1 over) new piston and rings put in? Or will this not work? i know they should be even, but do they have to be to run ok? Im just trying to avoid buying a new cylinder or paying alot to have it resleeved then bored then putting in a whole new rebuild kit. Only one cylinder is bad. the other is freshly rebuilt.
If you had one new cylinder and one bad cylinder, what would you guys do?? the idea of running one 82.50 and one at 83.00 sounds good money wise but is it a waste of time and asking for trouble with compression or timing issues and plus might run hotter in the larger bored cylinder.?? i wanted to have it back on the water atleast for labor day weekend and my XP is running great now. I want both skis in the water for the rest of the summer.
