Took a gang of kids tubing yesterday with my 98 Sportster boat. Nobody paid attention to the rope and it went under the boat and into the starboard jet. It stopped the engine. At the dock the rope was still in there good. I swam under the hull and tried to free it up but no luck. Has anybody had any experience with this?
I can limp it over to the boat launch on one engine to get it up on a trailer. Is there an easy way to get it out? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.:puke:

This took me about a half hour once I got it on the trailer. I swung the grate out of the way to give me access to get my hand in there to slice at the rope. The grate was attached to a cable using a sockethead screw.

DO NOT TAKE THE GRATE OFF!!! Stupid owners think this is the best way which is not. The nuts holding the screws will move or not stay in the right area meaning its a pain to put the nuts in. The best thing to do is pull the jet pump housing. Depending on how much went into the pump the wear ring may need to be replaced anyways.

Sorry forgot to mention, if you have a weedless system on your boat then that is fine. Pull the leaver and the grate will just fall out of the way.

I do have a weedless system. That's exactly what I did. I just swung it back to allow my hand to get in there with a knife.

If you have the weedless system then it is not bad at all. There are some people that will break bolts off in the nuts and it is a pain to get back to them, but glad you got your problem fixed
