Time to dig into the Carbs?

Last week I put new plugs into my 98 GSX Limited (Red/Purple) and gapped them to spec. Now this is the only thing I have done to it since the last time I had it in the water over the 4th of july weekend and now it bogs down around 5400 rpms and wont go any higher without the surging jerking and loss of power. I have already replaced all the fuel lines and fuel filter. Now I (and some are thinking I should have done this already) think its time to rip the carbs apart. I didnt do it before due to the screw heads stripped from the last person that worked on them.

What is the best way to get the stripped screws out?

Do I need to do a Pop Off test if I am doing a rebuild?

Looking at the kit from OnlySeadoo.com and they sell a pop off tester for $29.00, anyone ever get one from them and is it worth it?

Do I need to worry about syncing the carbs when done? If so how?

No need for the "We told you to do the carbs when replacing the fuel lines in almost every thread why didnt you listen?" I apologize for not sucking it up then and getting the stripped screws out.

stripped screws - the only way I know of is to drill a hole into the center of the screw about 1/8" then use a screw extractor...works everytime.
pop-off test - I did NOT perform the test when I rebuilt my carbs (cardinal sin, I know) I looked everything over with a "microscope" and all looked well to my eye so I chose to skip it. Once put back in, She fired right up and runs like a raped ape!!! I got lucky, I'll admit!
syncing the carbs - as long as you don't adjust the throttle body linkage, your sync should not be affected.
I would NEVER tell someone "I told you so." BUT, THEY did tell you so!!!! LOL
As long as you are mechanically inclined and can read & follow directions (a complete rebuild is posted on this site) you will have NO problem with it!
Good luck!
