Thinking about second ski

Love my 95 xp but thinking about getting a three seater for my wife and kids. Looking for something to pull a tube with or maybe a skier. Did a little research that lead me to a gtx 1998 or newer. Some opinions would be appreciated. Really don't wanna go much over $3k.

i know every area is different, but i'd think you'd be able to find an early 2000's 4 stroke for about 3K

No, stick carb 96-97 GTX. Best all around 3 seater made (IMHO) great cruiser and great power 55-56 mph

Forget the RFI (IMO) stick with carbs and a 787. I know the rodent will disagree lol but the 787 is the best all around Rotax engine

then next thing you know you open up your own ski shop lol

and find whatever you can get a deal on. rfi's are not horrible, the only things that can go wrong are the rectifier, crank sensor, tps, fuel pump and injectors. each issue has its own "tell" ie: bad/clogged injectors; engine will only reach 2200 rpm in water, bad rectifier; ski will only reach 3500 rpm in the water ect...

my point is di's/rfi's are not that bad once you learn them. and they are nice skis you can often get a deal on. just get whatever you like and or find a deal on and we'll help you keep it/ get it running.:cheers:

No difference between carbed and rfi version, same horse power, rfi should get better fuel economy, carbed ski is easier to work on, name your poison. Personally I would stick with something I know, 96-97 GTX.

The RFIs are a lot more reliable than their DI cousins, and are a lot more fuel efficient than the carbed skis. The 96-97 gtx is probably the best value for dollar as far as comfort, storage and stability in a ski that isn't overly complicated and you can work on yourself. Keep in mind the 96 gtx hull stuck around pretty much until the 4tec gtx.

no to RFI,
but 787 GTX would be just fine for a "family" ski, a 951 would be ok, but I wouldn't do it unless you stumble across a nice 01/02 GTX, which you can find for 3K.
with that said....

I actually agree with Nam, if your budget is 3K, a nice older 4tech 155 GTX would most definitely be the way i'd go.
if my budget was $1500, sure, stick with a 787 GTX, do NOT spend a penny over 1800 even for the cleanest 787 GTX that exists. (my opinion) Don't get me wrong, I love two strokes, (I still have one ) and I love the 787, but if you can afford it, a beginner 4 stroke is the way to go, I resisted picking up a 4 stroke just as stubbornly as I resisted giving up my flip phone.... but no way your talking me back into a flip phone now

If you have 3K wiggle room
GTX 155 Seadoo
FX 110 or 140 Yamaha
F12 Honda
you can't go wrong with ANY of those 3, they won't lose their value very fast because they are already pretty much bottomed out right now.
you can find any of those 3 models, in that price range, and you will be very pleased.

My Wife just asked me if we should buy a third Ski. So we would always have 2 to take to the lake when one needs work. Humm something fast and dangerous? AND it begains!

In Indiana you have what, maybe a month of good riding left? Wait til winter when the prices really start dropping when a poor chap has to ditch his ski because his wife wants to park in the garage

Winter is the time to buy if you aren't going to water test it... hard to water test though when it's snowing
