the 3500 dollar question 2011 vs 2008

I'm looking at 2 boats, a 2008 15 foot speedster supercharged with about 96 hours $12000 to $13500.
The second boat is a 2011 115 speedster supercharged 86 hours $15000.
is it worth the extra money what improvements have been made between 2008 and 2011.
is the motor any better?
assuming they're both in the same condition is it worth going the extra money for the 2011.

One thing to note is, the 08 may have the ceramic washers in the SCr. I say may as,,, officially the 08 engine was the last year to have ceramic washers. But,, we have seen early 09 motors have them. Plus, it seems boats are often a year behind their title. By that, if it is an 08, it will often have 07 engine and drive line components.

Now,, since both of the boats have basically 100 hours or more, the SCr officially needs rebuilt anyways. So in your case, even if it does have ceramic washers it really isn't relative as you MUST rebuild either that you purchase.

thanks for your reply I understand about the super charges but what about the drivetrain? and the rest of the motors is there any upside updates on mechanical improvements of going with that 2011?

Many have noticed the the mechanics of the boats, (motors, pumps, ect) are often a year older than the titles boat. So a titled 2008 boat often has 2007 engines.

The 2011 is no better than the 2008 in this case. There was a valve issue but that was on the 04-06 4-tec engines.

My opinion is that both boats are priced about $3000/4000 too much. Maybe here in Florida we have a different market because I would be able to buy both Seadoos for a lot less with about the same hours. If I was in the market for a 15 foot boat (had a Sportster 150... much to small for me and girlfriend) I would go with the 2011. Much newer boat with different supercharger. I believe those superchargers after rebuild can go two hundred hours before another rebuild.

For those prices I could buy a Sea-Doo 180 SE same years and same hours and a lot more boat.... here in sunny Florida.

You're right about the price. I've been looking at prices in Florida. I'm thinking possibly just having one shipped out if I could find someone to survey it.
Salt water is an issue in Florida.
My last boat was a 28 foot Baja which I bought in Florida. If you see anything let me know.

Here is one for sale in St Petersburg, FL by owner with a 255 hp engine that I would offer $13,500 if all checked out and have a good chance of closing at that price. I'm retired and could have it checked out by my mechanic (don't know what he would charge) and negotiate for a finders fee. The Challenger is a good boat. It bounces in chop; the speedster will bounce a lot more. I bought my Challenger from a guy who flipped it from Florida. The salt water does tear things up. So if you buy one from Florida, I will stick with the latest year possible.

My 180 fits in my garage...the trailer tongue folds up. I spoke with the owner this morning and the 2010 has 171 hours on the engine with 50/50 fresh and salt water. At hundred hours he installed a brand new turbocharger. Didn't ask why. He bought new and has all the receipts for the work done in the past five years. Seemed like a friendly guy. He has some room on price but said not too much. If I didn't have my Doo, I would seriously consider this machine.

I might be considering selling my boat, only 33 hours, I bought brand new with 3 year warranty and I still love it, but wanted something bigger... It's a 2011 seadoo speedster... Never been in salt water, always garaged covered, all receipts from berts mega mall...

No super charger, it would be a little slower, but it would save you tons of money on super charger related extras, plus better fuel consumption & you can run 87 octane (even though I always ran 91 shell).

I got it up to 50mph, never had an issue whatsoever (knocking on wood), i actually like it a lot and haven't posted it up for sale.

I like the Speedster 150 for its size, the ease of retrieving & launching it, storage, it's extremely agile in the water (I have done quick 360's on it on a drop of a dime) and fuel consumption.
