Here's what I could turn up.

OEM 717 Reman crank for $393(there's a $200 core that is refunded, ask how soon you get that back), An SBT is $275. Personally I'd pony up the extra $100 for the OEM unit, you already know the life expectancy.

Please guys don't jump on these parts unless Donkey says so. And hey, that's cheaper than all get out. Get a clean jug and head then pay to have the cylinders bored and your good to go! OEM for aftermarket prices. Just please verify all the part#'s, I used the fiche to get them but I don't want to be held responsible

Just for the quick math, that's $650 for OEM parts, figure $100 for a bore job, head for $40, jug for $75. So $865 for a complete engine with OEM goodness. A total of $120 more than SBT, but wait, I think shipping from SBT is $120--so that's even!

Those pistons are the second oversize, not the first like I think I stated( I edited the first post). They were cheaper than buying the first overs.

Thanks man, it's really like 20 minutes of work. It's a part# and Ebay and Google. I know guys hate Ebay, but when you can score OEM stuff for that cheap, how could you possibly hate it.

as i was taking apart the engine,it was obvious,that someone had recently replaced only 1 cylinder(mag side,in the pik its marked 717).
so they messed up something or missed the cause for the inital failure.possible carb lean,or case leak im thinkin.u guys agree?
and yes racer,,ill double check all the part#'s before i pull the trigger,,thanx again,

starting to go thru the carbs,pressurized the fuel line going into the carbs.i put 30psi on the gauge,and heard hissing from the mag side fuel line.(yep,grey lines and factory clamps).so theres a lean condition,from sucking bubbles,instead of fuel,right?

Not sure if your interested but I swapped from two carbs to one on the 717. All 3 of my skis.
Makes things easier.
You need to get single intake and single carb air intake with bigger main jet and your done.

Problem is orientation of carb is different and you lose choke cable.

Went from seadoosouce reference chart .
My boat with 717 have single carb. Didn't see why ski had to have two??

i dunno.im pretty handy with carbs, so i think ill stick to the stock setup.dont wanna spend a ton of extra dough.but ya,the gti we borrowed ran good with a 717 single carb,( in fact i remember the gti ran real good,cant wait to ride this one!),and the 92sp single carb ski rips.

From what I know the single carb is more fuel efficient and that was the main reason for the change. Ocod is right though, Saves $75 in carb parts on rebuild.

Twin carb should have a slight acceleration advantage over a single in theory.

when i got the engine apart,i found the rotary shaft gear missing teeth,the rotary crank gear off centered on the crank,and it looks like the end seal was leaking.cant find a reason for the gear to be stripped,possibly,when it failed the first time,they didnt see it.also,no needle brgs in the bottom end.pto piston had oe needle brgs,mag side had caged needles.
someone really tried to patch this thing,HACK!

its actually cool.when im done i wont have any worries about someone elses work,ill have done it,and it will be right. i wont have to worry bout old cranks,pistons,seals,oil lines etc.plus i get to show and explain this to my son nick,who is helping with the work,and who is the designated jockey for the ski!

well,its all together! runs pefect,(on the stand)did have 1 issue at first start,
when it started and i held the pump wide open,the mag side hose filled quikly,the pto not so much.it also had a bit of "unsmoothness" to it when it revved.i found the pto oil line banjo bolt loose,injecting oil into the hull and sucking air.tightened the banjo bolt,oil line filled,the miss went away.obvious vacuum leak causing the unsmoothness.(miss)
i am super pissed that i was sooo anxious to make it run that i didnt paint the engine!arggggg! i will pull it,paint it,n put it back in.goin to lake test all 3 skis this next saturday,wish me luck! oh and for you cold state guys,sorry,havasu should be in the 90's saturday!

Donkey, I didn't realize this but we have both been rebuilding a 95 XP at the same time. I just finished mine this past weekend, but haven't posted any pictures on it. Mine had many, many issues, but the engine was solid with exception to a case leak. Congrats on the ski!
we still have snow on the ground here, & highs of only 40, so it will be a good 6-8 weeks before I am water testing mine.
