Cant find the way to post a new thread on the forum, so will try it here.
Just bought 95 sportster and fuel guage doesnt work. Read alot of the posts and tried the suggestions: Shorted out black and pink wire at the rear near tank, going towards the gas guage, needle did not move (with power on). Used ohm meter from the connector to the float and no ohms. Am I missing something?

your float is probubly bad...pull the baffle out of the tank and on the bottom is a plastic cap that you can pop off and a small float will come out with magnents on it...... a new one is like 15 bucks just replace it and put all wiring back together and ur guage = should work just fine

Will give it a try, have it mostly apart now. Thought if you short out the wires to the guage its supposed to show full?
Grew up in Ferndale,MI

you have to short out the fuse in the baffle but just changing the float is best since u will actually show fuel all the time im in standish mi...u were way south

OK, going down to Bullhead Power Sports to see if them have some parts, will get back with you.

The float was missing alot of parts, maybe this hasn't worked in a long time. Got a new float and it doesn't work, so getting a guage now..., could be why the guage never went to full when I shorted it out. Both parts were inop., but no telling how long it wasn't working.

Before you spring for a new gauge, cross the wires and see if the gauge works. If it does, it is probably the fuse in the baffle that you can repair.
