Picked up what appears to be a great deal on a 96 GTX. Body's in great shape, with very few normal use scratches, no tears or fading to seats, and gauges are clear and scratch free. Price ($760) was low because the previous owner had a buddy doing a top-end rebuild, but there was a falling out and he told P/O to pick up his machine. Engine was already disassembled and ready to be rebuilt. Deal even included the top-end rebuild kit.
I have a 95 HX and XP, but haven't dug into the engines any farther than installing a West Coast head on the HX. Have rebuilt dirt bikes and just finished rebuilding a Kaw Vulcan V-twin engine, so I can hold my own turning wrenches and not too concerned about rebuilding the GTX. What I am wondering is if there are any suggestions about what I should do as long as the engine is out. The case hasn't been split, but since I'm apparently having crank seal problems with my XP (another post), should I split the case and replace the crank and rotary shaft seals? Anything else that I should take advantage of while the engine's out?
