sucked up rope

98 sportster sucked up rope on left engine side, but it's about a foot from back part where it was sucked in, what do I need to take off to get to it? Its happened before but it went in impellar at the rear. Do I still need to take off impeller?

Just slide under there and see what you can untie by hand. If you can't get it out, you'll need to drop the pump and pull the drive shaft.

you could try to take plugs out then turn motor by hand other way and have someone try to pull rope out(unwind in other direction as you turn motor).
