Rope wraped around drive shaft and breaking the blue plastic housing around drive shaft. Plastic busted off up to housing of boat. How do you fix, is it a do it yourself job?

It's the drive shaft protector, just leave it off, it doesn't really serve any purpose.

:agree: Most of us have already lost them. Next time you have the pump off, remove it the rest of the way. Just get all the rope out and take it out for a spin and make sure nothing else is wrong.

is there a seal around the drive shaft where it runs through the hull, just put a rope through mine and the rope went back into the shaft through the hull. I noticed some type of sealant on the hull where the drive shaft goes back through.

thanks Lou, does that go in-between the blue shaft protector and the shaft? The rope went back along the shaft and wedged itself right at where the shaft goes through the hull. As I just got the last piece of rope out and the sealant that I seen was between the blue protector and the hull.

I think the sealant that you're seeing is on what's left of the drive shaft protector, Part No. 13. There shouldn't be any sealant inside the thru-hull fitting.

Thanks Again Lou, it doesn't look like it did any damage other than shattering the shaft protector. Think I will take it out tomorrow and run it once. Anything I should watch for?

You should be in good shape. If the rest of the shaft protector is loose you could go ahead and pull out the remnants, if its still there and pretty solid, just leave it alone.

Lou

Wow, I was lucky only getting the rope caught in the shaft and nothing else. But also the previous owners removed the shaft protector.
