Hello. It took me a while to come up with that subject!

Not everyone can ride a Sea-Doo in the Northern Hemisphere at this time of the year except maybe for Florida and Louisiana guys (in the US). So my question is: what other cool gasoline gizmos do you ride in winter time in your neck of the woods when you miss riding you Sea-Doo? Of course, I am excluding weed eaters, snowblowers and lawnmowers and (exotic?) cars that are stored away for the winter... Well, I may want to hear about exotic cars!

I already miss my ski even if I see it every day in my backyard covered with a shrink wrap and tarp and locked down for at least five more months... If you are like me, you have to have something else to crank and play with (only with gasoline...)!!!

Please let me know! I'm interested.

Benji.

As usual, I will answer first.

Well, aside my ski, I have my ATV, a four-stroke with carburetor (no fuel injection). It is a Polaris Sportsman 500 and I just cranked it today a few times... I can't wait for all that snow to come and go for a six-hour ride with friends in the woods and mountains (like 100 miles in one day). In Quebec, we have the best federated trail systems for ATVs and snowmobiles in North America I believe (I miss the latter but it is sooooo expensive for three months of riding at the best). Ontario also has some. Heard of one guy riding also a lot in Colorado. But it's cold here! Traces of snow already on the ground today!

My ATV took over from my Sea-Doo by pulling it out of the water at the end of the summer.

P.S.: there were three feet of ice below me and my machine...

Ha Ha... So I'm not the only one... About my Polaris, it has never failed me after 6,000 miles on it and I even towed a Bombardier once for 50 miles...

About those snowmobiles: amazing! I would love to get my hands on a good one as well. I see Pennsylvania, is there enough snow there to ride the whole winter???

Seems like the Polaris's in my group don't usually have too much trouble either. I'd say any major make is pretty capable these days. The new Can Am (Bombardier's) are bad to the freaking bone, only problem is they cost as much as a car.

Unfortunately I know way more people who have quads than skis, so that's why I'm out of the ski game these days. Only on land for me (for now)

Problem with Ski-Doos is, unless you live in a real cold place, you are never sure how many times you will use it in a winter. For the past two years, it has been a Ski-Doo paradise here with seasons lasting almost four consecutive months.

But I remember 2012 where the season barely lasted two months and even then, conditions were less than optimal. In fact, in the 2000s, the snow conditions were not great and this has contributed to the growth of the ATV market.

With an ATV, good or bad winter, they still run. I think the real fun with snowmobiles is the speed. ATVs are not made for speed (ultimately). You can have any ATV, those tires become very unstable above 60 mph.

Time to bring out the snowmobiles. I have a trip planned to to minocqua, WI the first of the year for like 5 days with bunch of people. It is nice up there in that area. U pretty drive a snowmobile everywhere I want to go. I some atvs also just don't drive them much.

Not yet snow is showing this week we go pretty North close to the Yucatan peninsula area.

That's what they call that part of Michigan that's not connected to Michigan.

During "winter" it's finally cool enough to drive this here. :)

Are you sure you don't mean the Upper Peninsula of Michigan........Never heard of the Yucatan Peninsula of Michigan.

The Yucatán Peninsula (Spanish: Península de Yucatán), in southeastern Mexico, separates the Caribbean Sea from the Gulf of Mexico, with the northern coastline on the Yucatán Channel.

Adjacent bodies of water‎: ‎Gulf of Mexico

Heard other people calling it that name. I never looked it up myself but that for the info

Well, I've heard it called the U P, never heard it called the Yucatan though.

I guess this thread was short-lived... I'll have to do better next week... I kind of consider myself lucky living out in the boondocks with tens and hundreds of miles of woods and trails without a single house in sight almost in my backyard.

It is the kind of place that in the summer you get to ride you Sea-Doo at WOT towards that little tiny island and do exactly the same in winter on the ice with your ATV (or Ski-Doo) on three feet of ice.
