There was a straight fitting in my tempo lines on my 96 xp. When I was replacing the lines I forgot to install it in my new lines. What is the purpose of this straight fitting, and is it necessary?
I would have to look again, but I read about that in the SM the other day. It's referred to as an orifice that goes in the return line of the fuel system. Don't ask me why though.
I didn't put it back in my XP, I just replace the line with a full length hose. Rode all summer zero issues, just one more joint for a leak if you ask me.
Hmmm... this got me thinking as I don't have this as far as I can tell. The only reason that I could see a need to restrict the return would be to increase pressure in the carbs at the higher end. Engineers don't usually put unnecessary components in place.
Although racer hasn't had any issues, anal me would like to put one back on my 96XP. Does anyone have one to part with?
It's not an orifice, it's a line coupler, the orifice is located at the return outlet of the carb. it's not in the return line, it's actually in the supply line, part no. 5.
That's why I left it out. Whether it was on the supply or the return side didn't really matter. The fuel pump will pump the gas to the carbs so there is no sense in restricting the flow before the fuel pump, and the return line doesn't get much gas in that at least not a steady flow like the supply side. I'm almost positive it was put in for production, the tank probably came already plumbed and the engine came with carbs installed and plumbed with the air box on. So why not make the connection point easy to get to after the parts marry up in the hull.
