Has anyone put anything in their storage compartment in the middle of the boat so stuff does not get as as when the water drains or oil residue gets in there??? I am tired of pulling out my anchor, floats, skis and they be slimy or dirty... It might be stupid but i was just curious...
Thanks

I use plastic totes that I bought at walmart. One that is small for spark plugs and my gapper on a floaty keychain. I put that one along with my ropes, tiedowns (while on the water) a couple quarts of oil and a few tools in a larger tote that fits nicely in my storage area
be sure to let the ropes dry first.
I also have one of those reusable shopping bags that I put my cover in while im on the water just to keep contained, but that particular compartment doesn't get wet.

I have lots of room for storage in my LRV though so this may or may not help you.

I have a 95 speedster and Meme N Pop is right Walmart does have a cheap little storage container that fits in that part of the boat. Its like an under the bed plastic thing. I just leave it in there without the lid on. That is the worst storage compartment though, i know what you mean about the slime on everything that goes in there!

Clean your bilge once in a while... and you won't have the problem with things getting nasty when they are down there.

Tip the nose of the boat up... spray Castrol super clean all around, and hose it out. It will all drain out the rear of the boat. Scrub with a brush as needed.

Then... do the same for the engine compartment.

A clean bilge makes your boat safer, and if there is ever an Emergency that requires you to work on it, in the middle of the water... you won't get greasy.

But... as a band-aid... get some plastic containers. One thought... don't get cheap ones. They will just break when they get bounced around.

I was wondering how their compartments were so nasty. MINe was clean when I got it and I clean it once in a while. Super clean is awesome stuff.

Mine was nasty when I got it. I think the PO tried to fill the non-existent oil tank and just dumped oil into the engine compartment. Not to mention the two half empty gallons of oil laying in the storage compartments leaking.

Got the storage cleaned, still working on getting all the residue out of the engine compartment.

We use simple green and hot water then drive it around to try to slosh it around in there and it is improved dramatically from when we got it but still not what I would call clean.

So in the meantime the totes work for keeping things clean.

Mine was full of nasty too. Simple green is a good detergent... but it's not worth a dam on an old layer of mildew, oil, grease, and dirt.

Castrol Super clean is strong stuff !!

Tony thanks for the advice. Where do you get the castrol super clean? And is there anything I should avoid getting it on?

You can get it at auto parts stores like auto zone. I have even seen it at stores like wal mart. It is purple, you cant miss it. Very strong stuff. If you dont dillute it and use it straight, it will strip damn near anything. When I was a teenager I used it on my mom's car and it actually ate the paint off. Soooo I dont put it on anything I dont wanna stripped clean. Dilluted though it can be used on almost anything. Follow the directions on the bottle.

:agree::rofl:

Yup... it will eat paint that is not in the best condition... and it will strip wax off of anything. Also... it has a purple tint to it... and if it stays on your white gelcoat, it may stain.

As far as the engine compartment/bilge... spray it on everything at full strength. Even though it's strong... it won't hurt rubber or plastic.

There are a few generic versions of it (like purple lightning) but they just don't work as well.

You can get it at any auto parts store... but Wal-Mart, K-mart, and target have it too.
