starter drive problem

Can anyone tell me how to change the starter drive on a 2003 xp di
Do i have to remove the engine? I hope not
Does the whole front cover have to coMe off? It looks like there is a seperate cover near where the starter drive is but behind the main cover that may drop off?Is this correct?Any help would be greatly appreciated
