Starter 951 replacement 1998 gtx

So I got my gtx ltd carb model out and the starter cranks a few times and dies. Switched out new battery and same thing. Ran fine when I used it last a month ago. I assume this means a starter replacement. Can you do that without removing the engine? Do I need to remove the exhaust tube?

I think you can get to it if you remove the airbag and the carbs. I think it is just a couple of bolts and disconnecting the red wire!

I am not an expert, but I have heard the experts say there aren't good replacements available. The best options are buy OEM or rebuild existing if it is OEM.
