Speedster cable install/shifter alignment

Well, after being a happy boat owner for 8 hours my reverse cable broke at the shifter. I installed a new cable today and I think I've got'r all set except the alignment. Just wondering what method should be used to align the cable? Should there be a difference in the reverse gate when you shift from neutral to reverse? If so, what should move and how far?
