Hi All
I'm new to the forum and look forward to reading and learning about my 2004 Seadoo Sportster LE DI that I bought new in 04.
So far all has been good, but I have one question about the speedometer, the needle sits below the O mark and then all of a sudden it pops up into the correct range, but sometimes it just goes to the 32 mph mark and stays there. Sometimes if I lift the storge locker above the steering wheel and then close it the needle will go to it's correct postion, but not always. Where is the sensor located? Do you ever have to clean it etc.

Appreciate any help

thanks in advance

Ross

Paddle wheel.....

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Your speedometer is controlled by a paddle wheel, located on the back of the ski, on the ride plate. It's a small device that spins around in circles as the water passes over it. It has a magnetic pick-up. There are several test you can do to check it's accuracy. My first suggestion is to spin it with your fingers to see if there is any "catches" in it. It should spin real freely.

While were on the subject, is there anywhere that sells a new wheel?

For the Speedo, on the rear of the boat is a sender that uses a little wheel with 3 wires. 2 are for the the speed, and 1 is for temp. If your boat is equiped with the temp. quage. Using a multi meter attached to 2 of the wires, and spin the wheel you seed read restiance depending on how fast you spin the little wheel. Then check contunity on the wires to the guage. If it isn't reading it might be a broken wire. If it sends a signal to the guage, the guage is bad.
I hope this helps you out.
