speedometer sensor test

The manual says I have to test the speedo by running power to it and measuring voltage?

I have a sensor from a 01 XP, and want to put it on my 2000 GTX (yea, it won't have a temp sensor, don't care).

I used an Ohm meter, and got nothing from the sensor.

the current setup has the gauge jumping all over the place, so maybe it's bad wiring. whoever put in the last one ghetto rigged it all up. So I'll first redo the wiring and see if that fixes it. If not, guess I need a speedo sensor...

Normally I wouldn't care so much on my beater skis, but i plan to use it to wake board with... kinda hard without a speedo.

I Have The Two-Wire Speed Sensor Nailed, I Can Guess the 3-Wire...

There are two components in the two-wire sensor, and three components in the three-wire sensor.

I've completely rebuilt mine when it stopped working. Mine is a two-wire(no temp), I had to tear it apart and replace the two parts inside. Best I can tell, the internal hall effect sensor went bad.

Internal parts:
1 - 5.6 volt 1/2Watt Zener Diode ----|<----
1 - SS41 or AH41 Hall effect sensor(I used AH41)

I test mine using an 12v power supply, in series with an LED diode and 2.2k Ohm 1/2 Watt resistor. +12V---->2.2k resistor---->LED anode--->|----LED cathode------>Purple/Yellow---Sensor----Black/Orange------>12vDC ground.

1) Black/Orange wire connected to power supply ground.
2) Purple/Yellow wire connected to 2.2k Ohm 1/2 watt resistor in series with an LED to 12 volt supply (LED is an indicator and gives light as the speed sensor hall effect switches on and off)
3) Spin magnetic wheel and LED should flash on and off.

I might need help to verify my stock carb setup, leans out while in midrange cruise. Are 75 Jets too lean?
