I'm looking for some information on how the speed senser for the speedometer unit actually calculates speed and how it corrolates this info to the speedometer.

Mine was broken so I just had to replace it, and I'm just wondering how it works. I'm also about to order new custom gauges to replace mine from Speedhut. com and although it says it is a programmable speed gauge that works with all senders, I want to make sure it will work because it's not a specific marine gauge.

Any insight would be great.

Thanks

Josh

If it's not a marine gauge... it may not work. It depends on how it programs.

The little paddle wheel, has a magnet in it... and it simply gives a pulse as it spins. (some also have a water temp sender in them too)

Modern automotive gauges also work on a pulse... but they are MUCH slower at any given speed. SO... I woudl download the manual for that gauge, and see how "Open" the program range is.

The best universal gauges are GPS types. Like this.....
