Space between pivot arm and top of needle on carb

I have a quick question as I am putting my carb kit in...the top of the needle, where the pivot arm slides underneath....is that gap standard or do you have to adjust the pivot arm any? I know that I need to adjust the pivot arm on the other end to make it flush with the body of the carb...but what about the other end? The reason I ask is because there is some space between the top of the pivot arm and the needle, so that when you press the other end of the pivot arm down, it goes down a little before it lifts the needle up any...

I hope this question makes sense...

leave it alone. Just use the original spring, that was already in the carb and your carbs will be good.

I did leave them alone...but I have a nagging feeling something just ain't right...

If you have the needle valve assembled, should you be able to push down on the back of the pivot arm (behind the spring) and have a little play before it picks up the needle? I just want to make sure that this is the case.
