I have two ski's, a 96GTI and a 96XP. I have been using Quicksilver API-TC in both ski's, mineral oil (silver jug) in the GTI and full synthetic (black jug) in the XP.

My question is this, for simplicity I'm considering using the full synthetic in both ski's. Can I mix the quicksilver mineral with synthetic in the GTI or should I drain the oil, bleed the system and then add the synthetic.

It would be kind of a hassle to drian the oil as both ski's are at the lake and I would have to bring the GTI home to do it.

Thanks,

Lou

since your being lazy, take about an ounce of each and put it in a glass coffee cup for 1-2day, mix them up, and see if they re-act to each other. if they don't run the gti down low then refill with the syth.

Lazy!!! I resemble that remark. I don't have a glass coffee cup. I'll just use one of my wife's crystal goblets, that should work.

Is it true that once you change to synthetic you can't go back to mineral?

yes i'm sure she would love to come into the house and find 2 stoke oil in her crystal ware!! don't give the dog any beans that night couse your going to be sleeping with him, if she doesn't just shoot you.

as far as syth to mineral, i can't see a differnce on a 2 stroke cause the oil is being burning off...

Lou you always were the lazy one in the family. did you see the pics I posted on the movie thread that i took of sis last week at the lake?

Why don't you send an email to QuickSilver, and see what they have to say. (we would all like to know)

In a seadoo... you shouldn't mix the (XPS) mineral, and syth oils... BUT... they now have a syth blend oil... and if you use that oil, you can actually compatiblize the 2 oils.

Personally... I would just run the one ski WAY down, and pour it in.

I E Mailed Mercury Marine today about the compatibility of the two oils. It turns out that the PWC oil that I have been using is actually not strictly a mineral oil, its a synthetic blend. So it's O.K. to mix the two oils. I still think I'm going to run most of the synthetic blend out before I start using the full synthetic.

I know that in an automobile, when you change from mineral oil to synthetic its best to do an intermediate synthetic blend oil change before going to a full synthetic, so I guess its the same kind of thing.
