As I pulled apart my 96 GTX, I heard something bouncing around in the water box. It looks like a piece of tubing broke off in there. Looks to be over an inch in diameter and two or three inches long. Does this happen often? It is from my spare parts ski so I was going to toss it, but as a learning thing, want to know if this is something to be looking out for. Would it hurt performance? Not even sure what the tube did or where it was actually welded.

It may be a baffle.. not sure exactly where its located on a ski's exhaust, but that have been known to come loose in exhaust pipes.

yup, that would be a baffle that broke off. It will rattle around and drive you nuts. Get yourself a replacement, unless you like welding.

pre 97 water boxes are notorious for a broken baffle I cut mine in half and removed two of the three and gave the one I left in it a good tac job. made it maybe 15% louder. you should be able to find a replacement on ebay for cheapy cheapy ther not a vary hot commodity 97 and up are more free flowing and a little quieter. leaving it wont hurt anything but your sanity listing to it

I literally just pulled apart a 96 GTX and the waterbox is in the trash bin. (actually It may have already gone in sunday and picked up Monday) but you can have it for the cost of shipping if I haven't thrown it away yet...

Yup the 96 boxes are notorious for breaking. I have a 97 GTX WB available if you want to go that route...cheaper than getting that one repaired thats for sure.
