Yesterday i picked up a GTX 787 1997 the motor was sitting on the shelf in the factory wrapped in plastic, i got it all home and tore down the motor today and to my disbelief i found a rubber O-Ring on the piston pin also look at the piston slap on one of the pistons

had this motor ran it would have been a big expensive fire cracker

the seller was only a young bloke but he got a mate to do the rebuild, silicone everywhere...

it also has a brand spankin new RFI crankshaft in a Carby crankcase

anyone need a cheap RFI 787/800 crankshaft? it is winter here so i wont be able to off load it for another 4-5 months

If I remember correctly, the only difference from a carb crank to an rfi crank is the flywheel taper. So just get an rfi flywheel, it's cheaper than a crank.

I read that also on this forum, i MSG Minnetonka4me and he said it wont work because of the taper

racerxxx have u heard of anyone successfully doing this?

I called my crankshaft rebuilder the only guy in all of Australia doing pressed cranks and he said $750 to rebuild my crank

Since my new RFI crank is almost the same as my old rusted and seized crank do u think its possible to have the front crank web removed from my old crank and pressed onto the new RFI crank?

I think the pin is a one time shot but the best person to ask is the guy that already quoted you on the full rebuild.

I think your right and looks like on the microfiche i can't just buy a rod pin either, i may try source a rod kit from ebay as a single rod if possible and see what my options are

I will drop into see the crank rebuilder on monday with the two rods in hand and see what he can do

So far my options are

Rebuild crank $750
Lucky for us Australian's we have a SBT-Australia part of the USA-SBT they want i think $595 core exchange
There is a core exchange on Australian Ebay $550 delivered
Buy a rod and make one from my two cranks price to be determined

I need to factor in other things like that sloppy cylinder so i basically need a full top end rebuild, we do have SBT core exchange motors over here Seadoo 787 is $1695 they come with 1 year no fault warranty but i'm unsure what this includes or excludes

Hey Guys

Good news i dropped off my seized carby crank and RFI crank, the guys knew exactly what i wanted done and the owner took a look at the two front bearings i thought were ok but he said they both needed to be flushed

all up price for cleaning the bearings and swapping the crank web and pin $120, that's about USD $90
