Snowmobile vs. Seadoo on open water?!?!

Hey guys...

A buddy of mine has a 99 Arctic cat ZRT 600 triple liquid cooled sled, bone stock, and he's thinking about racing it against my stock (new engine with 6 hours on it) 97 SPX 800 on the open water. Just by a show of hands, I'm curious as to if this would be a whooping on my end. I know sleds are fast!

I have only ridden a snowmobile once, we visited my inlaws in Maine one winter. They're pretty fast, however I think the SeaDoo would win easily.

I'd like to as a question, how are you going to setup this race???

Lou

Well a friend of mine lives on a small private lake and has a nice long smooth approach to the water so the sled can get up to speed and skim across the lake. These videos of jet ski's vs snowmobiles are all over youtube and the sleds actually perform well on the water! As long as you keep the speed up, of course lol

Skidoo vs seadoo

well that zrt is fast for sure...problem is he won't have the track to do it.
I have a 05 440 mxzx with an 800 motor geared for top end with a 2" paddle, it hits 105 mph, I know for a fact on a very calm lake I could beat my 04 4-tech sc.

snowmobiles where I am from are very scarce, so I apoligize for my ignorance. Can they actually go across the water without sinking? I had no clue. I think I wanna see this. Take a video...I am gonna go check out you tube now.

the snowmobile should beat you easy because the approach is faster and also if its a ski doo its built almost the same as any sea doo motor they are very very close but the snowmobile is faster

The snowmobile has almost no drag on the water and should be able to get close to 100 MPH.

When I was at 2003 The IJSBA World Finals, this guy did the ramp jump twice. He sunk on the second try. They towed it to shore (underwater) with a PWC and less than 10 minutes later, he had it running again. I talked to him and he does this at special events.

Maybe we should be riding snowmobiles. One question what happens when you get to a NO WAKE zone ?????

Lou

yeah the sled would probably whoop ya but as soon as he hits a single wave and loses momentum he'll be at the bottom of the lake

Those videos are SICK!!! It seems the sleds are faster than I thought! As of now the race is just talk and no walk, but if it happens, I'll be sure to post a video!

Having seen a few people zip across a lake around here, I think you're screwed. If they get a proper approach going they'll easily go faster than 70mph

have you seen how close the mxz and the new rxt 260 look?
