I have a 1996 SPI (580) single carb which hasnt been run for two years, which i bought with the engine out.
replaced the engine and it starts and runs for no longer than 3 minutes during which time theres a fair bit of white smoke out the back and oil coming from the exhaust. After the 2-3 minutes, its like no fuel gets in and the motor stops. When you check the fuel lines then, little or no fuel coming out. If you then turn it over, it will not start although it is sparking. It will, after turning over loads of times start with the choke but, as soon as you put the choke back in, it dies. At that point, fuel is coming through the fuel lines. The bore pressures are 150/150 so are apparently good. The Carb has been rebuilt and holds pressure on the diaphragm
I've had it mentioned that it could be either the crankshaft oil seals, which are letting air in, or the rotary valve as it attaches to the crankshaft...both interfering with the timing. When it does run, it runs fine apart from the white smoke and oily deposit left all over the jet pump and surround.
I have taken the engine out again, just want to be sure what to rebuild :willy_nilly:
Can anyone help coz its driving me crazy? Many Thanks in advance and no, I dont wanna set light to it just yet!
