I'm new to asking questions on this site but I have been watchin the threads and have learned a lot about 2-stroke boats. I am working on a 787 at this time and planning to close over the cases. The crank seal on the PTO end has about 3/8 inch slop and I'm woundering if this is right. In the pictures you will see that I have located the seal tight against the retainer in one shot and in the other I've moved it close to the bearing.

Can anyone tell me if the gap is normal and if so which positon os best?

position seal against the retaining shim, the gap between seal and bearing number 4 will ensure proper lubrication of bearing, also apply a light coat of lithium grease on lip of seal.....
