Seal carrier / rear drive shaft question

Hey all.
My XPdi is running real sweet!:hurray: However, today when I greased my seal carrier, the rear lip seal came out of the seal carrier housing as I pumped in the grease!.

I think that a C clip is missing which is there to keep this seal in place?

I have noticed for a while now that there is a lot of side to side, up and down movement between the seal carrier and the rear drive shaft. I am guessing that this is not normal either. Also, when the engine is running, the drive shaft wobbles around in this seal carrier. It doesn't make any noises and apart from the wobbling around, it seems to be ok. Or is it????

I am not experienced in the drive line area of jet skis!

Any recommendations appreciated!

Cheers guys!

Are you talking about the intermediate seal/bearing carrier? If you are... then there isn't a C-clip to hold the seals in. They are just pressed in place with a a sealant. Your regular drive shaft seal is a carbon ring... so you won't be greasing it.

I have a happy snap to share!

Thanks Dr Honda.
In this picture you should be able to see what I mean. Hope it makes sense. I think it is the mid housing. Where u can grease.

What do you reckon about the clearance between the shaft and the housing? Is it normal? Also the seal looks damaged on the aft edge. It is really sharp and thin if you look closely at the photo.

I really want to fix it before this wears and breaks something expensive!

Cheers mate.

Yep... that's broke.

You need to fix it before you use the ski again. Pull the bearing pack out... and replace/rebuild it. (2 new seals, and a roller bearing)

Thanks Dr.

I have ordered the parts that I need. I am a little worried that the drive shaft is a little worn. Hopefully not. Will find out when I pull it apart .

Cheers Justin

Its not just broken, its really broken!

Wow! I pulled it all apart last night and its in bad shape!

To start off with, there is no bearing at all left. Just a thin outer bearing housing that used to house the rollers!

Also the drive shaft is not good either. It has an .080 inch run out in a couple of spots and as well as being bent, there are very deep corrosion pits. It is also worn where the bearing and seals sit. So a need a new shaft too.

I am so glad I am fixing this now. Its coming up to summer here in Oz and I want it cherry ripe. I should of fixed it a year ago when I bought the Jetski.

Thanks Dr Honda for the hand.
