Seadoo's design flaw in 06, 07 and 08 155 hp?

I have a 2007 Seadoo 155 that has had to have the wear ring replaced 3 years in a row. Now, I'm told by a reliable source that Seadoo put a plastic pump in the rear part of the PWC (2006, 2007 and 2008 on the 155 HP models) that rotates slightly causing the wear ring to malfunction and the PWC loses "ump".

I am also being told that Seedoo is not fixing the problem claiming it is not a warranty item. There supposedly is a medal retrofit that cost about $1200.

I'm clueless on most mechanical stuff so I'm at a disadvantage.

Has anyone else had this problem or heard of this problem?

Your wear ring will wear out from a number of things...quick acceleration from a stand stop... excessive beach use allowing sand to scour the wear ring, or debris that gouges the wear ring. I have replaced my wear rings 2x in one season from extreme use. It's normal. You should add your seadoo model and year to your avatar for future questions also.

How many hours does your ski have on it? Seems odd you have gone though 3 wear rings unless you are bad about being near the sand/debris or you use your ski a whole lot.

140 hours on it. All those hours are lake hours. No sand around.

It is strange that 3 wear rings have had to be replaced. At least before I was told by someone that KNOWS that it is a "design flaw" and See Doo isn't fixing the problem.

Yes, they wear out. That's what they are there for. If you put in a stainless wear ring, you will wind up eating a $300 impeller. A wear ring is $35, and it takes about an hour to install it.

Sure... you are in a lake, but there is still sand in the water, and twigs, and grass... and other stuff.

If you want to talk about known issues... talk to the boat guys and SeaDoo's bad gel coat. ($30K to $40k, and they are full of cracks)

That what I would have thought as well. If it was a flaw, there should be a lot of complaints about it. What I don't understand is why the person who told me it was a common problem would tell me that. He has a vested interest in selling Seedoo's. That is the only brand his company sells.

Check my signature line. I deal with a lot of dealers, and I can tell you that sometimes they just say things for the sake of talking. I've also met a bunch of mechanics that should not be allowed to touch a customers vehicle. There is a thread right now in the boat section that a dealer mechanic told someone to clean their RAVE valves. This person has a 720 engine. It doesn't have rave valves. (idiot) Finally, if your dealer really was selling a product that has a "Known" issues... why would he keep selling them? He would be setting himself up for failure. (and a lot of lost money)

OK... I'm not going to say that the pump you have is perfect. It could have gotten warped/bent, or it may not have been machined properly. If possible, post a pic of your impeller and ring.

Last question... are you just loosing "UMPH" or is your ring so warn out that you have cavitation, and you aren't accelerating?
