So my 1996 XP started doing this last season. Its super random and happens at all throttle ranges, Lately the ski has almost killed me a few times so I figure its time to fix it. Some times after cutting out its hard to start or when it does start it mis fires and then stalls out again. It makes me think its an ignition problem but I'm not sure? Could it be the dess post? I wouldn't think an intermittent dess post would cause it to mis fire upon restart but what do I know?

Weird thing is that we spend a whole day on Lake Erie jumping huge swells and it never cuts out once but then when I come home and ride inland lakes its cutting out like 20 times a day to the point where its not ridable unless you have a death wish.

This video is how it normally acts

DESS post or key is going bad. I just ran into the same problem a while back

Well alright then! Lets do it, I'll replace both. When I buy a new post and key together will they automatically be paired or do I still have to have a tech program the key thru the MPEM?

Nope, you'll need to take your ski to a SeaDoo dealer to have the MPEM programmed to the new lanyard. If you buy the lanyard from the dealer he'll be pretty reasonable, if not don't expect any favors. As an alternate you can send the new lanyard and your MPEM to minnetonka4me and have him re-program the MPEM.

Thanks Lou!

Hey is there suppose to be oil in the flywheel housing where the starter connects? I had my starter go bad yesterday on the other XP and when I pulled it today there was a decent amount of oil there when I separated it. I have pulled one before but I didn't remember seeing oil there.
