seadoo GTX LTD won't start, starter spins but won't engage????

I have a 1999 GTX LTD jetski and when I try to start it the starter spins but doesn't engage with the engine. The starter is working perfect, is there something else that makes the starter engage with the flywheel? If there is what is it and how can I fix it please?

thanks I will get one on order. are they easy to fit? do I just take the engine case off at the side and get to it that way?

take the mag cover off....(front of motor)
