just picked up my first seadoo boat, a '97 challenger 1800. the boat runs good at WOT throttle but the two engines are different rpms in the mid range and also it doesnt come out of the hole \ plane very fast. takes about 12 seconds or so from idle to plane. once moving though, it runs around 55mph with two peoples per seadoo's speedometer, about 52mph on my iphone GPS speedometer. compression on all 4 cylinders is right at 150psi from 3 tests per cylinder.

anyways, im going to order from SBT (unless someone knows of a better place) wear rings are 35\piece, but the carbon seal, is that in the "driveline repair kit" or the "jet pump rebuild kit"? also since this is for the challenger, do these kits come as a 'pair' since the 1800 has twin motors, or do you have to buy one for each side?

whats wrong with this forum? if i type more then a few sentences it says 'internal error' its said that for the past 2 hours, how aggervating, now i look like a tool splitting up my questions into a few posts...jeez...:banghead:

same issue

if paragraphs too long, it'll throw it up. Anyway, have you cleaned the raves? Looks like, the 97 challenger 1800 has been a hot topic lately, with same situations. Need to pull the carbs, go thru them, make sure, the excell pumps that are located on the pto carb, is working correctly, your settings are correct..1 turn on lsa, 0 at hsa, maybe 1/4-1/2 on hsa on the pto(back carb). Found that, seadoo did recall on the raves, and to bump the pilot jet to 67.5 and turn lsa to 1-1/2 turns out.

nope, have not cleaned the rave valves. in fact this is my first newer seadoo so until i get the manual in the mail from ebay, i wont really know what that is. i rebuilt a yellow seadoo 587 engine, and have been riding\racing motocross for over a decade. ive rebuilt too many 2 and 4 stroke motorcycle engines to count so aside from a few things ive never done before (i.e. using the seadoo alignment tool) there isnt much i cant do, but ill need the manual first to see how its all put together. i will be ordering the pilot jets, but regardless of engine problems, the boat cavitates and i want to solve that first. do you know which kit includes the carbon seal as i asked above? dont want to get the wrong kit.

pull the pto(back carb) rave assy off. Undo the latch clip, hold hand on cap, so you dont lose the spring underneath it, then remove the cap and spring. Next, remove the 2-allen bolts, securingthe rave housing to cylinder. Then just pull up on ur, and inspect. Reall easy, bud, for the front rave, need to remove cap/spring, then turn the "bellow" with 10mm, to undo it from the shaft of the rave, then remove rave.

For cavatation, the carbon ring is all universal with skis from 96, in 2-strokes.

Sbt.

Their web page froze on Me. But it looks like the driveline repair kit is what Your looking for. If You have two motors You will have to order two kits.
70-105A for Your boat.
Good luck and keep us posted.
