This is my last post here, this is a great site. Unfortunately, I am done with sea doos. They are garbage!! I have 2 2002 GTX 4 tecs that i bought a year ago with 57 hours. Immaculate condition. In less than a year I have pumped $3000 in them from everything from wear rings, mpems, wiring harnesses and odometers. Garbage, straight garbage!! these things are over engineered, the computer system is too much and easily goes on the blink. Sea doo mechanics tell me it;s one thing and it winds up being another. When these computer systems go on the blink they throw off BS beep codes, they charge you ridiculous amounts of money to fix. AND ITS ALL HIT OR MISS! It dosen't start, well, let's start replacing crap!! And there goes the start of the shakedown!! They even discontinued simple parts? Can't get absolutely no support from the bogus canadians. GARBAGE!!!! I found myself searching for used parts all over the country, with little or no luck. I had my sea doo in the shop for the same problem, 3 times and they still could not fix the problem. Even took it to another authorized dealer and same s@$t. A dealer can't figure it out?????? Meantime my buddies are all out with there yamahas enjoying the day and your getting soaked!! Good luck, would not recommend sea doos to anyone. Going to yamaha asap:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::rant::rant:

yamaha watercrafts are ghey, you'll soon be like sh*T IM GETTIN SMOKED BY A SEA-DOO....lol...and they look really even gheyer, like something that hyandia designed...maybe the watercraft thing just isnt right for you....B.O.A.T....bring out another thousand, you should soon rethink your hobbies, maybe model airplanes or something...

You bought used skis, and can't work on your own stuff.... wa'd ya expect? Like I've said in the past... low hour, older skis are worse the regularly used skis.

Unless you buy new... expect to have the same issues.

no disrespect, should have browsed these sites first. Not interested in speed, just reliability. I do have mechanical experience and it has forced me to do repairs that I did not mention, come on though, this is crazy with the electronics!! what the hell do you need water temperature for??? It's like have a laptop wrapped in plastic in your hull, OVER ENGINEERED!! It's all good! You guys have been great!:willy_nilly:

looking to buy 2 skis, new or used? any suggestions, comments? if I buy used, what do I stay away from?, what would be a good year? any tips? what would you buy? forget about brand as you know my situation.

I am starting to feel the same way about seadoos, and 2-stroke jets in general.

I have been on the water 6 hours in two weeks, and worked on the boat approx 24 hours during this time.

I agree with the overengineered, pushed to the limit, running at the edge of destroying itself at all times. Just waiting for something small to destroy the entire engine.

I hate to say that, as I own a ski and a boat that are seadoo, and I am learning how to fix them because I am forced to.

As soon as we sell this house and get a larger garage, I will get something with a 6 or 8 cylinder detuned 4-stroke car engine in it.

Of course, it will still be a boat, so I will be writing this same post about IT in a year or two...

Ditto, had a 2 stroke, great, but terrible on gas, I live in florida and there are many great spots that are some distance, 4 stroke is the way to go. Just talked to dealer, thinking about two new ones? Not sure if I want that price, just want to enjoy with kids and wife, got a place in the keys. ANy suggestions on new vs. old, besides the obvious?

Hate to break it to you but...

BOAT = Bust out another thousand

You're going to pay either way, either on something new, or maintenance..

Hold on

A word about Yamaha boats, yes they are not exactly the most exciting designs - however - the engines are bulletproof. They dont put supercharged engines in the boats, just 1.8 or 1.1 litre normally aspirated engines, and they are the strongest feature of the boat. I loved my Yamaha boat, only sold it because I wanted something smaller and faster. It was much better quality than Sea Doo. But boring !

I have been a long-time Yamaha owner and just purchased my first SeaDoo. I would have bought a Yamaha, but could not get one under 21ft! I just don't have the room or the truck for that.

But the Yamaha engines and Seadoo engines are pretty solid. Yes, they have some super technology that can turn them into piles of crap in minutes if not working right.

That caught me off guard when you said they didn't put the supercharged engines in their HO models. That seems like such a waste of a good powerplant. Just like Seadoo, they put not just one, but a pair of those monsters in there! But then again, that is one big pig of a boat to push around. It would be amazing to have two of those 1800cc supercharged engines available. Maybe they are not needed. (what am I saying?)

I agree with longhorn, easy on the canadians. But if you want to slam the FRENCH canadians, be my guest! lol

Hey easy on the French Canadians too... LOL!

I cannot comment yet as I have only owned mine for one month and only put about 7 hours on it since. But it seems for the most part watercraft are not reliable especially if maintenance not done regularly. Sadly they are also costly to maintain as dealers take advantage of you when its high season and you want your boat back.

Having said that keep in mind most people post on these forums when they are having issues. There are probably thousands of owners out there who never post and have no problems with their boats. Im certain the Yamaha forums are full of issues and complaints also.

Anyways sorry to hear about your problems florida82, hope you have better luck with your next purchase :)

Did you even try posting your problems here???

They don't call it the stealership for nothing pal! Did you try posting your problems on this site before posting bashes against BRP up here? You know what nevermind ... just go to yamaha; but remeber to buy new and don't forget to join the yamaha forum and remind them all about how happy your are with your yamis after spending $25k on two new ones. And you can also remind them how crappy your seadoos were when you prolly spent about $8K on two used ones.
