Scratches on pistons, 720 under the rings on the bottom side of piston, PROBLEM ???

just got 2 motors out of a speedster 1996 and both pump up to 150 and hold. I popped the exhaust manifold to see the sides of the pistons and noticed some vertical scratches you can feel with you finger nail!! I was wondering if this is a sign of break down or if some scratches are normal??? THANKS

It's kind of normal depending on how they were broken in... and what kind of oil they were using.

Since yo have good compression... I wouldn't worry.

thanks for your input, I really appreciate it, while you're still on can I ask you what kind of oil you would run in the 720 motors?

I personally run XPS syth blend oil (The black bottle) in a 720. But any good API-TC oil is fine. There are a bunch of guys here running the QuickSilver PWC oil with very good luck.

DO NOT run a TC-w3 oil in a seadoo engine.
